Custom Gates in Windsor

Custom Gates for Windsor homes

Windsor's mix of century homes, post-war bungalows and newer subdivisions means fences that run along alleys, narrow side yards and corner lots. In Windsor, the most-used gate on many properties is the one onto the rear alley, opened for garbage day, the garage and deliveries. We build alley gates with steel-framed or braced construction and hardware that can handle daily use, and double gates where a vehicle needs to pass.

What's included

Walk gates, double driveway gates and rolling gates in wood, vinyl, aluminum and steel, framed so they swing true and latch every time. Depending on your property, the work can include:

• Walk gates
• Double driveway gates
• Rolling and cantilever gates
• Frames that don't sag
• Heavy-duty hardware
• Gate posts set deeper
• Measure the opening.
• Written quote.
• Build and hang.
• Adjust.

Full details, how the work runs and common questions are on our main custom gates page.

Local conditions in Windsor

Windsor's summer thunderstorms bring down branches and fence sections every year, and many older fences have posts rotting at the ground line. Alley gates take daily use, and long, sunny summers turn unstained wood grey quickly.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for custom gates in Windsor, get clear answers to these before signing:

• How will the gate frame be braced against sagging?
• What size hinges and posts will carry the weight?
• Which way should the gate swing on my slope?
• Can the latch take a lock?

By-laws, permits and locates

Windsor's fence by-law allows fences up to 2.2 metres in side and rear yards, 1.2 metres in front yards, and up to 2.5 metres along an alley or public walkway, with a 0.9 metre limit inside the sight triangle at corner lots (open chain link or metal pickets can be taller there). Pool enclosures fall under a separate by-law and need a permit. Rules change, so we confirm current requirements for your address during planning, and utility locates are always requested before digging.
